Join Executive Director and Chief Curator Tiarra Inez as she shares the nuances of the Harlem Renaissance Movement, the first African American led movement of international modern art. Drawing from her work on The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism Exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2024, join us in exploring two decades of radically new modes of self-expression including art, writing, performance, and philosophy to learn why the Harlem Renaissance was more than we know.
About Tiarra:
Tiarra Inez Brown is Executive Director and Chief Curator of the Huntington African American Museum. Her career centers on Black visual culture, diasporic identity, and the transnational histories of modern and contemporary art. Guided by a research-driven and community-informed approach, she is committed to amplifying narratives historically marginalized by encyclopedic art institutions and reimagining the possibilities of cultural memory, heritage, and historical interpretation.
