Station 10: Dr. Kissam's House (Front Door)

In 1795, Dr. Daniel Kissam lived and worked right here in Huntington. He was the only doctor in town! He visited patients at their homes, often riding to their homes on horseback!

Instead of modern medicine, he used plants. Herbs like lavender helped people relax, mint eased stomach aches, and rosemary helped with memory.

Today, we keep a garden on this property to honor Dr. Kissam and the plants he used.

Challenge:
Take a look around where you’re standing.  What do you see? What do you hear? Try to imagine yourself in 1795.  What things might have looked and sounded differently?
