Celebrate 250 Years at the Conklin Farmhouse and Barn!

Grades 2-5

Field Trips Offered: September- June; Monday – Friday

Welcome to the Conklin Farmhouse and Barn! Our enhanced program offers an immersive, hands-on exploration of daily life on a colonial farm in Huntington. Led by costumed educators, students discover how families in the Revolutionary era worked together to meet their basic needs, with a focus on the roles of men, women, and children within the home and on the farm.

Through guided comparisons between past and present, students step into the world of colonial childhood by participating in traditional games and creating period-inspired crafts. Grades 4-5

Field Trips Offered: May & June; Monday – Friday

Join us for a look into the fascinating life of a doctor and his family in the 1790s. Led by costumed educators, students and teachers will step back in time during an engaging and interactive visit to the historic Kissam House Museum. As they explore the Federal-style home of Dr. Daniel Kissam, students will discover what daily life was like in the late 18th century through hands-on activities and close examination of historical artifacts.

The program also introduces students to early medicine and the use of herbs, connecting past practices to the present day. Each student will practice penmanship with a quill pen and create take-home items including a personalized whizzer, a stenciled card, and a hand-planted herb.
