The purpose of the Huntington Historical Society’s Resource Center and Archives is to discover, collect, preserve, and make available for research books, pamphlets, broadsides, newspapers, periodicals, photographs, maps, atlases, manuscripts, audio-visual and other materials relevant to Huntington history. The society also collects material on those aspects of American, Northeast, New York, and Long Island history which have substantially involved or affected Huntington. In addition, the Resource center and Archives collects reference material which supports the objectives and programs of the Society and its museum.
The Archive is housed in the Trade School Building, which was expanded in 2016 to accommodate the growing collection.
The Society holds library and archival materials including books, periodicals, manuscript material, oral history recordings, maps and atlases, ephemera, microforms, photographs and postcards and more relating to the Town of Huntington.
Our museum collections are stored and displayed in our two house museums, David Conklin Farmhouse and Dr. Daniel Kissam House, while the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Building serves as a venue for special exhibits. The society’s archives are located in the newly restored and expanded Huntington Sewing and Trade School building.
Highlights of our extensive museum collection include items of clothing dating back to the 16th century, furnishings, ceramics (including local stoneware), textiles, tools, fine arts, and dolls.
The society’s archives include documents, photographs, publications, maps, and ephemera relating to the social, economic, and personal history of the town.
The Resource Center and Archives is located in the former Huntington Sewing and Trade School at 209 Main Street, Huntington Village.
