Winter Wearing you Down?

Break up the 2017 Winter Break! Bring the kids down to one of Huntington’s Historic properties for one, two, or all three of our fun and creative historical activities!  There is something for everyone, grades 1 -6.  Snack is included.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21   Calling All Weavers!!    9:00 -12:00 at The Conklin Barn, 2 High Street

Our most popular summer activity hits the Winter!  All children will explore a variety of weaving methods, weaving on our four shaft looms, tapestry weaving, and Kumihimo, a form of Japanese Cord making.  All will go home with a piece of their very own hand woven fabric, as well as a Kumihimo weaving disc and cord.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 22 A visit to 1900:  A Kid’s View  9:00-12:00, Trade School, 209 Main Street

Our Trade School Archives are once again open for business, and we are showing them off!  We will be touring the 1905 Trade School, the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Exhibit “Guilds in the Guilded Age”.  Naturally, there will be  a variety of activities exploring Huntington Circa 1900; crafts, including shadow puppets and paper flowers, games, and photographs of 1900 life in Huntington will be showcased.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY  23   9:00-12:00, I can’t Believe my Eyes!  9:00-12:00, Conklin Barn, 2 High Street

Was there life before TV?  What did kids do for fun without video games?  Find out what “moving pictures” used to mean; we will build early optical illusion toys, such as Bird in a Cage and a Zoetrope.  Kids will also get to experience an original steriograms, and a Magic Lantern Show!

COST PER CLASS:  $30 per class for members, $35 for non-members. (FOR any two classes, $55/60 for three classes $80/85.
