members $5 "American Music in Colonial America" Michael Goudket
Music in colonial times spans the time from c.1610 to
1783 and includes British, Spanish, French and some American music. Mr.
Goudket's presentation will discuss secular, social music and instruments.
There will be an interactive discussion of concerts (you can play), dances,
and a demonstration of the most popular portable instruments including
English and German flute, violin and viola da gamba on facsimile
instruments. Mr. Goudket will present this lecture in period dress. This
promises to be a wonderful and fun experience for all who attend! |

Spring the Genealogy Workshop of the Huntington Historical Society sponsors, and
guides, a
research trip to the Family History Library, run by The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City. There, the researchers tap the largest genealogical

Sheep to Shawl Festival,
At the
Dr. Daniel W.
Kissam House Museum property
Noon till 4:00. Join us for this wonderful family event.
Enjoy sheep shearing, traditional textile demonstrations by local artisans
and crafters, old fashioned games and children's activities, a Petting Zoo
and pony rides, and tours of our historic Dr. Daniel W. Kissam House Museum.
Lively music will be presented by the Long Island Traditional Music
Association throughout the day. Note: This event is
made possible, in part, with public funds form the
New York State Council on the
Arts (NYSCA).
In Suffolk County the Decentralization Program is administered by

The Nathan Hale Garden Club will be putting on this Flower Show
selling Art and Plants. On Friday the 12th the show will be open from

THHP Fundraiser: Join
us for brunch and a matinee performance of Crazy for You at the John Engeman
Theater, Main Street, Northport. Brunch begins at 12:30 p.m. and the
musical follows at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $75, of which $20 is tax-deductible.

Noon to 4:00. The leaves are falling and the crops are
being taken in. Apples are dropping from the trees and the Society is
celebrating. Come join in the festival. Bring your children to
play traditional games, try old-time crafts and dance to the tunes of
traditional music. |

This lecture, which will begin with a general overview of the China
trade, will examine the China trade in relation to Long Island, by including
a detailed examination of objects that have made their way into local
collections and by investigating early shipping routes between Western Asia
& America on the Long Island Sound. |

beginning of their Transportation Empire in the1800’s and focuses on the
local history of William Kissam Vanderbilt II and his Centerport Estate

Native American Day
Spend a delightful afternoon, 2:00 to 4:00, exploring the history and culture of our Native Americans.
Learn about their traditions, skills, food, clothing and view authentic
artifacts from our collections.
Crafts, games, songs and refreshments are included in the $10 per child
cost. For ages 7 – 12.
Adults must accompany children and will not be charged.

Holiday Historic House tour, We invite you to celebrate the holiday season by joining us for this
exceptional tour between noon and 4:00 pm.
Each year in December the Huntington Historical Society arranges
tours of local residences that date from Colonial times through the current
century. The owners of these houses, open their homes as a service to
the community and the Society, to demonstrate life styles throughout our
country's history. Each house is chosen for its distinct design and
historical details and refreshments are served, as part of the tour, at one
of the Society's museums. A tour of the museum is included. |
